The municaplity of Nordre Land - Facts

The municipality of Nordre Land is located in Oppland County, and reaches from the lake Randsfjorden in the south, to the mountain Synnfjellet in the north. Nordre Land is 964 km2 big. We have a lot of forests, rivers and lakes, and the village Dokka is our municipal centre. About 2750 of the municipalities’ 6270 inhabitants live in Dokka.

The distance to Oslo is 150 km, Gjøvik 40 km and Lillehammer 50 km.

Dokka is a well developed trade and service center, where you can buy most of what you need. Along the main street of Dokka you’ll find friendly shops and cafés.

Our municipality also includes a large number of holiday cabins. There are more than 2100 cabins in Nordre Land, and more are being built. The center of development is the mountain area “Synnfjellet”. The highest peak of Synnfjellet is “Spåtindtoppen”, 1414 meters above sea level. Close to Synnfjellet you’ll find “Ormtjernskampen” National Park.

We also have a thriving business sector. The highest number of employees is found within public services, followed by commodity trade, industry and finally agriculture and forestry. We have traditionally been a region based on agriculture, and have extensive forest resources.

A new business park and the planned Dokka Delta National Wetland Center are important projects which can contribute to further business establishments and the creation of jobs. The goal of the business park is to increase local economic growth, and to facilitate the establishment of new businesses. The municipalities of Nordre Land and Søndre Land have recently established a corporation for the Dokka Delta National Wetland Center.

We provide good services to our inhabitants, including a full day care for children and good schools, including a high school. We have a sports hall, new swimming pool and a number of other sport facilities. There are more than 160 different clubs and organizations in Nordre Land, which contribute to a rich and a versatile cultural life in our community. We have a well-developed welfare service for the elderly, including nursing homes, assisted living accommodations and home health care. We have a culture school, youth club, library and open-air museum.

Nordre Land is a great place to live in, and a recent citizen inquiry shows that people enjoy living here, and we are always interested in welcoming new inhabitants!
