There are excellent facilities for outdoor life throughout the municipality. In the winter time we have about 450 km of prepared cross-country tracks through a variety of terrain. Just south of Dokka is the Dokka delta, which is a protected wet land area with a rich bird life. The “Water Way” – from mountain to lake, will consist of three bicycle trails. The start will be at the base of Ormtjernkampen national park and they will all end at the planned Dokka delta wetlands centre In Odnes. The “Water Way” will take cyclists through a varied landscape where cultural and natural heritage sites tell about the interaction between water and man through centuries.

The mountain Synnfjellet is located in the municipalities of Nordre Land and Etnedal, and is very close to Ormtjernkampen National Park. The Synnfjell area has great possibilities for further development, and is an easy accessible high mountain area, only 2.5 hour’s drive from Oslo.

The waterfall Møllerstufossen in the river Etna at Nordsinni is a wonderful place for swimming. There are natural small rapids and waterfalls with calm pools, and smooth rocks to lie on for those who prefer sun-bathing. Møllerstufossen is also an interesting place to visit because of its famous rock carvings. The rock carvings date back to the older Stone-Age, and are at least 6000 years old. The rock-carvings represent mostly moose, but there are some that can represent beaver and otter. They have probably been chipped out using hand held stones.

Lands Museum was established in 1927 to document and preserve the history of Nordre and Søndre Land. Today the museum is a center of expertise for cultural and nature history, and is active in the field of building preservation and international wetland work. Lands Museum is located at Dokka, and the museum contains more than 30 historical buildings which reflect the architectural tradition of the region from the Middle Ages and up to the 19th century. In the stately main building from the large farm Thomle, the walls are decorated by Peder Aadnes (1739-1792), one of Norway’s leading rococo painters.

”The Country Road” is a cooperation project between several small scale businesses in Nordre and Søndre Land. Here you can find everything from accommodation, galleries, and mountain farms to the selling of farm products. Along the “Country Road” you’ll find lake and mountain, culture and tradition, and a wealth of natural resources. The “Country Road” winds through the Land area. You can ride a bike, hike, or go by car, boat or bus. You can experience mountains and fjord between Hadeland and Valdres, find peace and quiet in the forest clad hills and deep blue waters. Here you’ll meet rural culture, traditions and businesses, – and not least – people who want you to share them with you.

The municipality of Nordre Land also offers great opportunities for fishing; in the rivers and in the lakes like Randsfjorden the main catches are whitefish, pike, trout and perch. The Folungtjern Fishing Pond in Torpa Statsalmenning has facilities for wheel-chair users. Boats can be hired at several places. Information about this can be found in stores selling fishing licenses.

It is also possible to hunt moose, deer, woodland birds and hare. Hunting licenses for small game can be bought at several places. Moose and deer hunting are administrated by different land management organizations and by the crown forest administration at Lillehammer.
